Maple Tree Square is situated in the Gastown area of downtown Vancouver and is named for the maple tree that once grew on the site and under which the decision to change the city's name from Gastown to Vancouver was apparently made in 1886. Today, the square is lined with Victorian architecture and is home to a host of shops and cafes, as well as occasional outdoor concerts in summer.
