GALLERY GACHET was founded in 1994 to provide consumer/survivor artists with the opportunity to exhibit, perform, publish and sell their work and to offer a place for support and community. Named after Vincent van Gogh's homeopathic doctor, Paul Gachet, the Gallery provides exhibition opportunities primarily for members, with select exhibitions from other groups with similar goals. Created in 1983 with an ongoing commitment to the presentation of contempory art that is experimental, challenging and critical. The original gallery and living space were used by a succession of curators who shared the rent and advertising costs with the exhibiting artists.
